The worship team leads us each Sunday in worshipping God as they guide us in praising and singing with their uplifting music. The worship service each Sunday is a vital and very visual part of the church ministry. The Worship team meets to rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.
Presently, two worship teams provide music at Baxter Road Bible Church. Generally these teams alternate two Sundays on; then two Sundays off. This schedule shifts and changes as needs arise.
The worship team is always looking for good instrumentalists and good singers. If you are interested in being on the team please read the segment “Joining the Team” found on this web page.
The Worship Leader is Mark Barker and you can email him at markbarker@baxterroad.org
: : Joining the Team
Recently a number of church members have asked about getting more involved in the worship team. This interest has been at various levels, from playing an instrument, to singing, to operating the soundboard and/or power point. The conducting the worship service by the worship team each Sunday is a vital and very visual part of the church ministry. It is important and desirable that members be interested and be involved. So how do you become involved?
The first step is to be a regular attendee at church. Worship team participation requires a significant commitment often times 4 to 5 hours per week practicing for the service; and then two services on Sunday. A person needs to understand this commitment. Family life must also be considered since these extra hours will have an impact at home. By regularly attending church one will have a better idea of the commitment involved.
Second, contact the Worship Leader with your interest. You may also contact any of the other worship team members to learn more about the individuals on the teams, but you will also need to contact the team leader. Presently that is Mark Barker. It is at this time that the Worship Leader will have the prospective applicant complete the Worship Team Application.
The worship leader will most probably spend some time with you to learn more about your interest, past experience, desires for the future, and your “heart attitude”. It is important with a ministry such as the worship team that a participant’s heart is in the right place for this service. This is often times even more important than your talent. But talent is important.
Based on your desires, goals, and the present needs of the team, this first meeting could involve a variety of things. It might be a simple discussion, or it may involve a brief audition. This is not meant to scare any prospective team members but one must understand that as a worship team member you are representing the church, and the church’s worship ministry. It is important for all involved including the applicant, the team leader, and other team members that they understand the capabilities of the applicant.
Following these first two steps, as available the Worship Team Leader will begin to work the applicant into the service presentations. This may take a while or may happen immediately. It will depend on the person’s talents, needs of the worship teams, and/or services that are anticipated for the future.
Presently music at Baxter Road Church is provided by two worship teams. Generally these teams alternate two Sundays on; then two Sundays off. This schedule shifts and changes as needs arise. Members will be assigned to one of the two teams. Additional teams may be added in the future as necessary.
Regarding the make up of each team, generally each needs at least a piano player, drummer, bass guitar and regular guitar player, 2-3 singers, a sound operator, and a power point operator. So you can see there is a place for just about anyone. Even though you may not have what you consider “musical” talents, the worship team may need your talents elsewhere. So to that end feel free to contact us. We enjoy the support of a wonderful church family and administration. It would be nice to have you as part of the team.
